Run With Roofus to Support Joel Moscovis
This March, the Pelican Roofing team is back in the “Roofus” suit for our 3rd annual Run With Roofus fundraiser. We’re running a 5k every single day this month, but every mile is dedicated to an incredible 11-year-old in our community: Joel Moscovis.
Last August, Joel’s life was tragically changed forever by a gunshot from behind. The bullet hit the C2 level of his spinal cord, which has left him paralyzed from the neck down, relying on a ventilator to breathe. But Joel is a fighter, and his spirit remains as vibrant as ever.
It’s a long road ahead, but Joel doesn’t have to do it alone. We are rallying around Joel and his mother, Hannah, to show them the community is with them. Your donations directly fund the medical procedures that give Joel a future of hope and recovery. Any donation you can provide will go directly to Joel and his family. Please help us spread Joel’s story to every corner of our community.

Joel Moscovis
Joel was the kid you’d always find playing sports. He absolutely loved competition and excelled at every sport he played. That vibrant, energetic spirit hasn’t disappeared; it’s just been sidelined by a senseless act of violence that left him paralyzed from the neck down.
For Joel, the finish line isn’t a medal; it’s the hope of regaining the functionality stolen from him. Specialized stem cell therapy is his greatest chance at regaining some functionality, but these treatments are very expensive. The second half of these treatments will cost $40,000, and we want to help make that happen for him. Every dollar raised through Run With Roofus goes directly toward these procedures, turning our miles into a real, fighting chance for Joel’s healing.
South Louisiana takes care of our own. Whether you donate or share Joel’s story, you are providing the fuel for his recovery. Every step is a push toward getting him the help he needs. He spent his life playing for the love of sports; now, let’s all play for Joel.

Why We Do This
Hardship doesn’t wait for the right time. Medical emergencies, life-altering diagnoses, and unexpected accidents can place enormous emotional and financial strain on families.
Run With Roofus exists because no one should have to face that alone.
Rather than looking away, we choose to run toward the need. We believe that when a community comes together with compassion and purpose, it can change the course of someone’s life. That belief is what drives Run With Roofus every year. We’re proud to continue this tradition and grateful to everyone who helps make it possible. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement plays a role in helping someone move forward during one of the hardest seasons of their life.
How Does Run With Roofus Work?
We keep Run With Roofus focused and intentional so the impact stays real:

Recipient Selection
Each year, a local individual or family is selected based on their circumstances and needs.

30-Day Run Challenge
Roofus runs a 5K every day for 30 days to raise awareness and rally support.

Community Fundraising
Donations are collected throughout the campaign to directly support the recipient.

Direct Impact
Funds raised help cover medical bills, recovery costs, and essential care during a critical time.
This is more than a fundraiser. It’s a commitment to show up for someone when they need it most.
A Tradition Built on Community

The Bayard Family
In 2024, Run With Roofus supported the Bayard family after Brannon Bayard suffered a catastrophic brain injury following a motorcycle accident. The injury resulted in multiple strokes and long-term disability, dramatically changing life for the entire family.
As Brannon worked through recovery, his wife Sonya, the family’s primary caregiver, was also battling breast cancer while juggling a full-time job. With mounting medical bills, ongoing care needs, and a growing family to support, the financial pressure was overwhelming.
Run With Roofus helped raise funds to support the Bayard family during this incredibly difficult time, providing relief, stability, and the ability to focus on healing and being together.
